Before & After | Color Block Nightstands

One day I found myself at a retirement sale where I stumbled upon a set of vintage nightstands. I wasn't a fan of the wood finish they had but the size was great and they had an interesting style, so I took a chance on them.
The construction of these Conant Ball nightstands was great. They are solid wood with dovetail drawers, but I wanted them to get updated with a dipped/color block look.
I first prepped the nightstands by cleaning and sanding. I then taped off the upper portion, primed with a stain blocking oil based primer, and then applied 3 coats of the perfect creamy grey paint. Click here to find out the paint color I used.
Next I mixed up a custom rust orange color and applied 2 coats of paint to the lower part of each nightstand. I let each coat of paint dry fully before applying the next coat. Read more about the paint here
Once all the paint had been applied and was dry I sealed the nightstands for durability and to add a satin sheen. I brushed on 2 coats of topcoat for protection.
Lastly, I added new black ceramic hardware. The original wood pulls were nothing special but the new hardware adds some much needed contrast and stands out against the creamy grey paint.
