Plain Wooden Star Becomes "Star" of Holiday Display

I picked up this unfinished wooden star at Michael's for $5 (with coupon) and transformed it to be the main feature of a holiday display in my home.

As I've posted previously, I've been using this basket that I made to decorate my home by filling it with different items for each season.

For the Christmas season, I knew I wanted to use red and white, with some metallics, to fill the basket. When I saw this plain wooden star at Michael's, it was just what I needed. And I didn't want to spend a lot of money on this holiday display, so for $5 this was the perfect piece to fill my basket.

First, I painted my star white. Then I decided to add some string art. I hammered a brad into each point of the star. For my string, I used a combination of thin twine and gold metallic embroidery floss that I twisted together.

I wanted to keep my star decoration pretty simple, but the gold embroidery floss added just a bit of holiday sparkle. I like the result because I can use this star for decorating in other parts of my home when the holidays are over.

To complete my holiday display, I filled my basket with red and green ornaments left over from my ornament wreath and some greenery leftover from holiday floral arrangement I made.
