A yearly New Year’s tradition at our house is to plant a new amaryllis bulb. Growing amaryllis is so much fun to watch, with their rapid growth, as though they are on steroids. The growth of the bulb from beginning to bloom takes us nicely through the dreary months of January and February. For indoor plants, not much beats a blooming amaryllis. Drought Smart Plants on Nov 18, 2014You need to be cruel to them to get reblooming. After they've finished flowering and start to shrivel just stop watering them entirely until late in the summer. The need this to ripen the bulb. I've got a few seedlings started and they need that too, so I'm keeping a close eye on them as they dry out on the kitchen windowsill. I'm thinking of setting up my grow light and starting to water them again as they're so tiny. It's a project!
