Easiest Light Makeover Ever!!

Did you know you can get a "new" light for your bathroom with just a little bit of paint? And if you custom mix the spray paint like I did you'll end up with a unique and beautiful new light fixture.

This is what I started with. The style is nice, the light still works great but I wasn't in love with it anymore. We installed this light in our tiny master bathroom in 2002 and 14 yrs of moisture had taken it's toll on the finish. The chrome was etched and I really wanted something new for my $100 Room Makeover Challenge I was participating in with some blogging friends. With my budget so tight a new light wasn't really possible. Painting it would have to be enough. Little did I know it would be way more than enough

After my husband removed the light from the wall I gave it a good washing and a light sand to smooth out the etching. That probably wasn't necessary but up close it looked pretty bad. Then I wrapped the sockets in painters tape before carrying it out to the garage and into the small spray shelter. This thing is a life-saver; it allows me to paint in the garage without paint going everywhere. And I can paint in the yard without the wind carrying the paint everywhere but the intended target.

I wanted something beautiful and luxurious that would look great for years to come. After testing a few color options on a scrap board I came up with a custom mix. Glossy black as the base and Antique Nickle dusted over the black worked beautifully together.

I couldn't wait for it to dry fully so we could reinstall it. I couldn't be happier, and I think you'll agree it looks pretty fantastic. You can see the process I used to get the custom paint when I used the same process on a little soap dispenser.I hope you are inspired to paint your own bathroom light for an easy and cheap update that will give your light a whole new look!
