Recycle and Reuse! Or How to Have Extra Storage That's Pretty!

Hi! I'm in the middle of organizing and downsizing things at home, and as a treat, as I find little "treasures" I'm doing some crafts with things I already have on hand. Today's project was a result of some of those "saved" things. It's a fun and thrifty way to repurpose what you may already have!

I started with an empty single serve coffee box and an empty sauce jar (these are from my cupboard, since I forgot to photograph the empty containers before I started!).

I pushed in the perforated box lid from the coffee box, painted the box with chalk paint and then added a scrap of leftover fabric that was too pretty to throw out. The flap could have been removed, but, I decided to do it this way. I attached the flap to the box with glue dots, and also the fabric was attached the same way. On other boxes I have removed the flap for a cleaner look.

Bling was attached after the paint was dry. It is quite inexpensive and I've found it at both Walmart and at the Dollar store. It comes in single rows, multiple rows and different colors. I painted the chalk paint on the outside of the jar.

I also "blinged" a simple white frame I had purchased and added some paper butterflies available on Amazon (and in the Dollar store made from a different material). The knob on top of the jar lid was a small plastic ball I found in my "junk drawer". It looked like it used to be a cap on something, but, with a little glue and paint it is something to dress up the lid. I separated a couple of the pieces of the "bling" to decorate the lid (it has a net type backing that cuts easily with scissors).

Nothing new was purchased for these items. Everything was leftover from other projects or items I had "saved". I keep buttons and other small items in jars like this. The boxes I use for odds and ends. I've also used them in the past to organize my underwear and sock drawers. It's easy to cover the boxes with contact type paper (they have some cute prints at the Dollar store), or even scraps of paper or fabric if you use Modpodge or watered down glue. Sometimes I use leftover pieces of ribbon or cute buttons to decorate. This was a fun reward I gave myself for several hours of cleaning.
