Gallery Wall Tutorial

After some work in my living room I had to relocate a gallery wall I had worked so hard to get right. I was moving it to a smaller space so that required paring down the items I used. You can see the original arrangement in a previous post. Using what I learned on that one made the process easier. With a piece of white chalk, ruler, and level I marked the outside edges of the space I wanted to fill. The center of your arrangement should be at eye level.
The chalk wipes right off when you're done, don't worry. After I had the edges marked I measured the space and transferred those measurements to an area on the floor.
This becomes your playground. Here you can play with your pieces until you get it looking the way you want. Watch your spacing between items. I try to stay within 1-2 inches of each piece. This keeps your arrangement looking like one piece rather than a disassociated placement. I also like more of a symmetrical arrangement.
Take pictures when you're finished. Study the photos as they often reveal problem areas you won't notice while you are working on it.
Once you are happy with arrangement you can now start to place the pieces on your wall. I always start with the center piece and work out from there.
Move out from either side, remembering your spacing. Before you know it you'll have a beautiful composition on your wall!
