I love the thrill of the hunt! Bargain stores, garage sales and antique barns etc. This window was picked with a few others. I don't mind getting dirty if it means that I can repurpose.
Beautiful rustic hardware
The window was in good shape considering it was taken from a century old barn.
  1. I washed the whole window ..head to toe. Washed off the grime and accumulative dust with hot soapy water.
  2. Once dried, I took a hand sander to the window to remove the old flaking paint. It came out quite smooth with a fine grit sandpaper.
  3. I wiped the window clean and used paint tape around the inside of the window.
  4. Starting with a pure white satin finish paint I painted the first coat and let dry. Proceeded with the second coat and ended with a slight third coat just to add some touch ups to the tougher areas.
  5. I also gave the old rusty hardware a bath with warm soapy water to get off some of the old rust and junk accumulation from the 100 year old grime. I found that I would be best to just paint the hardware so I just used a gold acrylic paint.
The window was complete but my project was not. :)
Almost done
I had bought the vinyl quote from Amazon. This was exactly the size I ordered.
  1. I thoroughly cleaned the window glass. This took quite a while to remove small pieces of paint, scratches, dust etc. The window had to be completely lint free.
  2. I read the instructions completely and decided how to add them to the window because of the panes being divided. I decided to separate the words, cut out the areas on the paper and very carefully measured each side and what would go where. This was probably the most stressful part of the whole window. Lol. Once everything looked equal, I took my sweet time and peeled off my lettering. Once this was complete, my handy dandy husband helped me with adding picture wire to the back of the window to hang. He's a champ!
It's up on the wall.
Complete!
I love how the rustic window ties in with the headboard that my husband made.

Do you have any true info on the window as to the actual year they are from?

I have a couple of Transome Windows from my childhood home.

They are now 118 years old and hanging on walls in my house.

Thanks for showing yours in a different way than I have displayed mine.

I'm going to get on them right now.

I also have made one with 6 panes separated...I blew up some photos in black and white and put them in the window and made a collage with them. Looks great.
