Janelle my prayers go out to you. Maybe you could contact your local boy scout troop and see if any of the leaders could help out. If there is hard wood flooring under the carpeting just see if it could be pulled up. Community service projects possibly for a church group .
Have the social workers at the hospital hook you up with local programs for seniors. Your doctor should have some references too. Have a computer? Use it. Start Googling for senior assistance in your area. You need a contractor that is expeienced in ADA requirements. Belong to a church or religious organization? Ask for help. There is help out there, it is just sometimes looking for a needle in a haystack.

I would contact your local elder agencies as well as Habitat for Humanity. I bet they can assist you in finding help.
