A while ago I was inspired by fluid art which inspired me to create my own. If you’re new to fluid art, it’s when paint looks like it’s been spilled or splashed onto the canvas giving it a cool effect. It can be done multi color or monochrome. Since my walls aren’t all that pretty I thought this would be a great wall covering. Before starting my project I tested at least 10 different techniques and was left with a whole pile of worthless scraps. My paint was soaking into the fabric to much and looked like tie dye rather then the spill effect I wanted.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Give your fabric a good coat of white paint.
- In your mixing container mix your black paint with alcohol.
- Then take your paint mixture and start brushing it onto your canvas. .
- Use your finger to rub the alcohol and paint together just to get the mixture going.
- Then use a fan or blow dryer and blow on it to create the splash effect.
( COOL AIR NO HEAT ) (rubbing alcohol is flammable use CAUTION and please read the full tutorial on blog before beginning this project)
- Once your art piece is done and dry turn it upside down and staple the fabric to your wooden dowels.
- Staple your string to one of the dowels and it’s ready for display.

I feel like this gave my room a clean modern look.
I love the spill effect. It's a fun project and I can't wait to try in in different colors.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
I just had an idea. I have brick/concrete walls (very old school bldg) - not allowed to drill holes (my sons worries LOL) -command strips don't work well because of the high humidity here (tried to hang curtain rods - nope) - sooo thinking I could paint like this on the wall and glue thin frames around it? thoughts???
Why 91% alcohol. I can only find 70%.
Totally off the subject of your project, but where did you find the pretty green atomizer in your first picture?
