While I enjoy decorating for all seasons and occasions, it's nice to have an item that is easy to transform quickly. Chalk board paint and a wood plaque to the rescue.
In my "saving for a project stash", I found the perfect wood plaque that needed a new purpose.
Since only the center portion was getting chalk board paint, I taped off the exterior portion.
When taping the exterior portion, it was necessary to shape the tape but pressing into the curves.
Rust-Oleum Chalk Board spray paint is my preferred product for anything chalk board.
Several coats of light spray and the center was completely painted.
Once the center was sprayed and dried, I wiped Old English Dark Oil on the perimeter to give it an aged look.
To give it the easy switch of seasons, I glued a small round magnet on the bottom corner.
Since September means Autumn is approaching, I decided to use a Fall motif. Off to the Dollar Store for an embellishment.
The pumpkins on the sheet from the Dollar Store were perfect and the fact that they were already magnetized made it even easier.
I love the chalk board graphics and definitely want to become more proficient at doing them but for now....
When the holidays are upon us, I can swap out the pumpkins for a piece of vintage snowflake jewelry and a new saying.
The nice part of this project is that the chalk and magnet provide endless possibilities. And while a picture hanger on the back enables me to hang on the wall, it also can be used with an easel for table decor.
It also makes a perfect party table accessory. I can envision Apple Pie written in chalk with an apple embellishment on the magnet.
And it takes up almost no space. Let's hear it for small, multi-purpose decorating items.

This is my favorite craft on home talk yet. I love things that are interchangeable. How big is that piece of wood? Did you get it at Michaels?
