Hanging Bee Waterer

I had this little leaf shaped dish that I never used and thought I could make a hanging bee waterer for my raspberry patch. There are always lots of bees around the berries.
The idea is to have items in it that provide surfaces for the bees to light on so they don't drown. I also added some twigs of Sedum for appeal. The chord is one long piece tied together that I double wrapped around the bottom and secured with wire at the top.
I wired it to a sturdy tree branch that I had already attached to the fence. It was actually after I wired it to the branch that I added the stones and Sedum.
I added water once it was hung. Keeping water in it is a daily chore; much like keeping humming bird feeders fresh.
The next photo is of a bee waterer that I made with a DIY birdbath.
This is a large shallow serving bowl and it has a couple of natural rocks, smooth glass stones, large marbles and a few sprigs of Sedum. The blue glass bear is atop an upside-down decorative bowl. It's hard to see but there is water in it.

The base is a small up-side down plate and the first thing I did was level it into place.
The pedestal is a tall vase to which I added sand for stability. None of these pieces are glued together. It makes cleaning easier, plus I've had glued pieces come apart when moving them. It is sitting in an out of the way place in a flower bed and since I don't have big dogs or small children, I don't worry about it being knocked over. It's been there at least 6 months with no mishap. I had hoped to get photos or video of bees visiting my waterers, but I fell this spring and broke my hip and lower back so I've spent little time in my garden this summer with the birds and the bees. Maybe next summer.

Thanks. It’s very rewarding to watch as new things come together with the old things that have just been sitting around the house.
