Unicorn Spit Makeover

Was looking for a project to try out my Unicorn Spit and saw this chair for free on a local site and thought what the hell I have nothing to loose. I am not the most creative when it comes to painting but thought the end product made a cute bedroom feature chair.
The chair was not in the best of shape, there were so many layers of varnish and the veneer was all cracked But I felt it added to the character of the chair. I used Citristrip to remove all the layers of varnish and re glued the legs which were all loose.

Once the chair was all sanded back , you could see that the back of the chair had a great design which would not be lost thanks to Unicorn Spit being Translucent. I started with a coat of Zia, then blended in Blue thunder, Dragons belly and Navajo Jewel and finally added phoenix fire around the edges to give it the aged look.

I made a few mistakes doing the chair but with the Unicorn Spit it was very easy to fix, you just wet the gel and rework the stain.

I wanted to do this as a quick job, So I used a heat gun to dry the gel which only took a few minutes. I then applied 2 coats of oil based varnish and the colors when from drab to Fab. I did notice that the color were very different once they are varnished, so I would advise a test patch to see that you are happy with the colors.

I covered the base in white leather but felt that was a bit to modern for the style of chair so I found some old fabric from the charity shop which look more in keeping with the style of the chair.

This was a nice quick project, the 2 Hours to do this project does not include varnish drying time.
Unicorn Spit Mirror
And while I had the unicorn spit out I decided to give my boring white mirror a splash of color. I had the same issues with the color on this project. It looked like the color was going to be a Teal but once the varnish was applied it went more of a green color. So I would advise to always to a test piece so you know you will be happy with the final color. But still love my Unicorn Spit and hope to do some more projects soon. I'm new at this. I have a secretary and would like to paint but not sure what to do. I like what you have done. I have never heard of Unicon Spit. What is it? Can it be purchased at Lowe's or Home Depot?
