If the bags have been used to carry any meats, or fresh vegetables and fruit, is in not recommended that these be reused for any other purpose. There could very likely be bacterium, or insect residue clinging to the inside of the bag, or harbouring in the folds of the seams.
Send them to California! They are banned here and we need something to line trash cans with. My friends with pets especially miss them. There are some things reusable bags just don't do as well.
My city recycles many Things, even fluorescent bulbs and car batteries, but not lightweight plastic bags. It takes too many bags to make a ton, and too much labor—it would take the whole budget. So I use them for all sorts of things. I use up to eight bags to line our four small trash cans twice a week; bags with only paper and cardboard are kept another cycle or more, while paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic bottles and a few other items are also recyclable. I use them when we travel in the car for trash bags, for dirty clothes, for extra shoes, for sports and craft items, etc. to save lots of room in the car. When we are cooking, we use a bag for food scraps that can’t go through the disposer and food wrappings that can’t be recycled, like meat and chicken styro trays. When I’m doing crafts, I need a scrap bag and I use the bag insides to wipe off all the paint I can from the brushes before I wash them. In the craft room, I keep a stash for all sorts of things, including to hold more bags! When sewing, I have a thread and selvage bag that lasts quite a while. We don’t have pets, but I would use the bags to clean up after the pets. The white bags are perfect for stuffing plastic snowmen—we almost never have a white Christmas. When I need to wear a glove but I don’t have one, like when staining wood, I grab a bag. Sometimes, I have plenty, but sometimes hubby and I compete for the bags we have! Happy home-cycling. 😇
