A shop vac does a halfway decent job of getting big wood chips out of the way in the workshop, but it's those fine particles of dust that you really need to worry about. With my new dust collector installed, my lungs are much happier!
I picked up the Harbor Freight dust collector with one of their 25% off coupons. It was kind of a pain to put together, but I got it done! Instead of the standard dust bag on top, I upgraded to a .5 micron dust filter. You can find out more about this special filter here.
This setup will keep your lungs virtually dust free, but you'll start to lose suction quickly when it starts to fill with sawdust. Plus, that fine mesh filter will rip as soon as one of those rogue screws ends up rattling around inside.
I added a trash can cyclone to my dust collector set up to prevent these problems. It swirls the sawdust around, and the heavier pieces fall into the trash can. Only the finest dust actually makes its way to the filter, where it's trapped.

Great help and super pictures look very complexed the shop vac i found are the one that are good for workshops and because i do a lot of woodworking in my shop i find the shop vac a best option, thanks for a great insight!
