Memory Ornament

It's my son and wife's first Christmas together as a married couple.
I was looking for a way to commemorate it. I came up with an idea for an ornament.

Start with baking soda and make with cotton swabs like Q-tips.

It started with a garage sale find of old Christmas ornaments. Each box was 10 cents. No I didn't need 8 boxes worth but at that price I couldn't leave them there!
As I said they were old and some had the paint peeling/chipping off. The paint was on the outside so it was fairly easy to remove. I removed the metal clip and cap and set aside. I then washed them in a warm sudsy bath. That removed some of the paint - it slid right off!

By then most of the paint on the inside had come off, but there were bits and pieces still left. I added some rice and shook vigorously which removed them.
The remaining paint on the outside was a little harder to remove. I wanted something non-abrasive so I reached for the baking soda. I made a little paste with water. Using an old soft toothbrush I gently rubbed it around the outside of the ornament and watched as the finish peeled right off.
I rewashed the now clear ornament, dried the outside of the ball with a dishcloth then dried the inside with a small piece of paper towel using a chopstick to maneuver it around.

All clean, like new glass ornament ♥
I typed up my son's and wife's names along with their wedding date, printed them out.
Cut them in strips and inserted them inside.
Using ribbon from their wedding I made a loop and bow.

I'm hoping it's something that will bring a smile to their faces each Christmas as they unpack it and remember that very special day.

Why not just buy some clear ornaments at Christmas time from the craft stores?

I also put in some colored tulle, ribbons, and "jewels" from the actual table decor at the wedding.

I am sure they will love it. I made several similar ornaments after our Christmas-time wedding and I love putting them on every year. For one, I took one of our invitations and cut it in strips and curled them before putting them inside. Then I did 3 others that I put petals and a few my dried flowers from my small wedding bouquet inside. I used the ribbon that was wrapped around my bouquet to create the loops to hang all 4.
