There are some things in your home that you don’t notice that need attention until one day you look, really look, and see what a mess it really is. Steph’s mailbox was one of those things. The dirt, rust, and dangling mailbox door had all become ‘white noise’ that hadn’t been obvious until June when we painted the outside of the house. After that it was quite apparent that the mailbox was looking really sad and needed a little help.
She has one of those metal boxes that is securely imbedded into a concrete/brick mailbox. She started searching for a way to replace it and happened upon the family owned, Florida based BayShore mailbox company. What makes their product unique is you retrofit the existing mailbox so you don’t have to remove the old one. She was intrigued and reached out to the company to see if we could partner with them to showcase their unique and very easy DIY product for homeowners!

This is the RetroFit door, and the rust sleeve which come in two parts.
The rust sleeve slides in perfectly to your mailbox. These kits come in 3 sizes to fit different metal mailboxes.
While the mailbox retrofit and flag replacement were super easy and fast, the other improvements we decided to make to the mailbox took a little longer.
The brick mailbox surround was really dirty. It actually cleaned up really well by using Home Armor Mold and Mildew Remover. We sprayed it on, let it sit for a bit, scrubbed with small brush, then rinsed it all off. At some point, the mailbox must have been hit causing the base to crack. We filled in the crack with DAP Stucco Patch, let it dry for 2 days (per instructions), and then painted with Steph’s house paint.
All these improvements made such a difference and were immediately noticed and admired by Steph’s many neighbors that routinely walk their dogs past her house!
Using the mailbox retrofit system by Bayshore Mailbox Company makes this a very easy DIY for homeowners!
