I thought now that it's finally getting cooler here in TX, and since it's Christmas time, I'd change the every day Coffee Bar into a Cocoa or Hot Chocolate Bar!
I used an antique tea cart but just in case you don't have a separate table to use or much counter space, there are other ways to carve out a Cocoa bar that don't take up a lot of space. You could use a serving platter, a 3 tiered dessert tray or even a basket. It's just so the Cocoa bar stands out from the rest of the items you may already have sitting on your kitchen counter.
It's all in the presentation. Choose a theme to keep you on track so it doesn't look all hodge podge and messy. The goal is to have it look special, festive and welcoming. For my theme, I chose peppermint since I have a thing for red and white. If red and white clash with your kitchen area, how about having a snowman theme with black and white or a blue and white theme for the winter or Hanukkah. I could easily see a wilderness or woodland themed cocoa station with browns and deep greens.
If you are using a separate table, elevating the items in back makes for easier access and it looks more welcoming. I used a cake plate. The items you choose to hold the goodies or "fixins" can be unique as well. I like the vintage Santa cup and antique cream and sugar bowl for interest.
After placing all the hot chocolate and goodies, the last thing I did to decorate the Cocoa Bar was to add real/fresh greenery. It fills in gaps and feels more like Christmas. I've posted the full list of what I added to make the Cocoa Bar a perfect stop on my blog. Pop over there for the details.

I love this. I have an old dresser from my childhood. I'm going to refinish it and I was wondering what to do with it. This gives me the idea to use it as a "dessert" bar for family events.
