Recently, I discovered a small paint company with a really great product line ! I've been buying and collecting colors a few at a time, and kind of "playing' with them to see if they'd fit into my unique style. The line is adorably marketed with a Mermaid theme, and primarily displayed in coastal projects. Although I love coastal re'designs, I confess, I'm more the colorful Vintage Gypsy type !! Here's a quick tutorial with my SEASPELL paints !!! {Happy Gypsy}
I had a few pallet blanks left from all the Holiday signs we made this year and decided to use a few to experiment with painting techniques. I began with SEATURTLE and heavily dry brushed across the pallet blank.
Then in the opposite direction, {vertically}, another heavy dry brush of URUSULA
Layering 2 more colors in the same manner, ANCHORED and MERMAID MIST, I covered MOST of the board
One more quick sweep of SEA TURTLE and URUSULA ....LET DRY
I call these ZENeffex...... they are my personal homebrew creations, which are pearly, metallic water based glazes that work well in blending also !! ....I used a light coat of CRYSTAL BALL { sheer pearly white} to blend that top layer of SEASPELL paint.
Just enough shimmer .....would make any MERMAID or GYPSY proud !!! ....THEN I HAD A LITTLE FUN !!
I GRABBED A FEW ANTIBACTERIAL WIPES !!! and began wipe back the colors, horizontally only. The moisture in the wipes pulled just enough color to reveal the layers. I know what you're thinking.... product waste... but not really ..... SEASPELL's coverage is great, and very little product had to be used in the first place !!
I love this effect !
the colors work well together, and the texture I achieved by brushing in both directions really looks cool !!
The shimmer from the pearly CRYSTAL BALL sort of made it's way into the grain ...just enough !!
This was the quickest blending technique I have ever tried !!! Luckily SEASPELL also has a quick drying time, so even large layered and blended projects don't take long at all !!
As you can see by my jars...I've been using my SEASPELL paints a lot lately !!!
Just a quick stencil to illustrate this technique as a background..but honestly....I am totally seeing this on a tabletop or ...A HEADBOARD !! ....I think that would be perfect for this Gypsy !!!
