Creating a Shelf Out of an Old Drawer

I like things that are a bit unusual. i needed a shelf to hang below a rusty pulley on my wall. I decided to create one using an old drawer.
Making this shelf was so easy and fun! I had an old table that had a broken leg. I removed the drawer to make a shelf.
Hubby cut a small top shelf out of a piece of plywood we had lying around in the garage. More space for displaying! :) I then attached an old hinge for interest.
I Modge Podged some French papers to the back. My sister in law recently vacationed in France and brought these home for me.
I've got it decorated for Christmas right now, but it's going to be so fun to play with all year! I am attracted to small things. Old buttons, a folding ruler, a crumb brush, and a pink Gurley Santa candle.
I added this doohickey to the side. More interest to catch the eye. I then tied and old key down from it with jute. My mom always called things doohickeys when she didn't know what they were.

I have no idea what this is either. (Another doohickey) I just loved the color! It collapses and looks like it should hold a light bulb, but there is no place to screw one in. I made a nest out of raffia and added one of my mercury glass bird ornaments.
Bottom of the shelf holds a velvet deer, bottle brush tree, and a date stamp. This project cost me nothing because I had everything. I have seen drawers for sale at thrift shops and Restore. In fact, I bought a small one for $50 cents and created a Christmas scene in it.
This is the photo of the small box.

Thanks Linda! Isn't it amazing what we learn from our parents and grandparents? lol!

This is very pretty. I wish I had such cute vintage items such as the deer.

Thanks!! It was a lot of fun to make. The deer was a thrift shop find.
