DIY Painted Basket

I recently got a wicker basket handed down to me. It is a simple basket and it definitely needed a bit of sprucing up. Luckily, my paint cabinet is always well-stocked and I am not afraid to use it!
Start by gathering the supplies you’ll need for this project:
- wicker basket
- white paint
- blue paint
- disposable cups, for mixing
- foam brush
When it comes to painting wicker, here is the secret that seems to work well. Dilute the paint with water at a 1:1 ratio. By mixing the paint with water, you are thinning it out and creating a bit more of a white-washed effect, letting some of the wicker character shine through.
Next, in a separate cup, add the blue paint and some water to thin it out. Start painting the bottom third of the basket.
For the middle third, apply a mixture of the white & blue paint (along with some water to thin it out). The ombre effect is very subtle but it's still noticeable and gorgeous. I love that it offers a bit more visual interest than that plain wicker basket.
I absolutely love the way this came out. The ombre effect is subtle but still noticeable. For more tips, tricks and inspiration, please visit the link below. I am always doing thrift store makeovers & home decor projects on the blog!
