I started out with these old wooden blocks. I have had these for quite a few years, and finally came up with a cute idea for them. They measure 3 1/2 inches square.
These used to be the front of the blocks, but I am using the back side. I painted the back and sides white, using acrylic paint.
I decided after painting them white, that I wanted some black too. So I repainted the sides black and also added a little black to the front edge. By using some painters tape to cover the white, I was able to paint a clean edge.
Here's what the blocks look like after painting.
On one of the blocks, I added a scrapbook paper heart. I used black and white scrip paper for the larger heart and pink paper for the smaller heart. I used tacky glue to attach it to the block.
I had black chipboard letters for the rest of the letters. Since this was for Valentine's, I used X and O, and I heart U.
I stacked them on my mantle with a pink puffball garland.
