Fireplace Makeover In 3 Hours & Under $30
Sometimes we overthink decorating, we overthink projects. We think they are too big and too costly.
I know I think about the big picture and get overwhelmed...do you?
Here's my fireplace. It's okay. I don't mind the mantel, I like the color of the brick. I HAVE A FIREPLACE (so that's pretty awesome). But it just didn't have a WOW factor like I wished it had.
I decided to take this "opportunity" into my own hands and head to the lumber store (with my kids....so you know I was determined!). I purchased on 4x8 sheet of plywood (and had it cut AT the store for me, for free...best idea ever).
I took it home, sanded the rough edges, gave it a real quick coat of white paint (I used some random white paint that was in my garage, I actually think it may have been drywall primer).
Then nailed it on the wall. I attempted to find studs (when possible), but otherwise none of the pieces were all that heavy and putting it right onto the wall was fine.
After it was up, I sanded some of the knots in the wood a little bit to give it a roughed up look (aka added more character).
Now I have a neat focal point in my living room; just by updating the fireplace. It took less than three hours (that includes the time it took to drag two kids to the store, and wait for paint to dry) and cost less than $30.
