I like to decorate colored eggs at Easter time but I have only taken the time to dye or decorate real eggs maybe twice in my adult life. I really like eggs I can get out each year that won't go bad.
I started with these great wooden eggs from Oriental Trading. They are just plain wood so you can paint and decorate them in any color you want.
I used yellow, blue, green and pink chalk paint for mine. I didn't paint the inside because I was going to use them for decoration. But they would be really cute with candy inside of them for an Easter egg hunt.
I let them dry completely. I wanted to add some polka dots so I used the eraser side of a pencil. I dipped it into white chalk paint then "stamped" it onto the egg. Some dots came out better than others. It was quite fun.
I love chalk paint but I always think I need a bit of a shine to my painted wood. I added grunge glaze wax to them. I painted it on with a brush then wiped them off with a soft cloth. This gives them a slightly grunge/distressed look.
Now they are perfect!
They look so good in the painted colander as decor in my living room. I can't wait to get them out each year.
