Easy DIY Hummingbird Fountain
I wanted an easy fountain for my hummingbirds to use but I did not want to have to run electricity to the area. I bought a solar fountain and created this. The hummingbirds LOVE it!

I bought a solar powered fountain from Amazon, no electricity is needed and I wanted a gentle fountain so this is perfect. (I have tried a few and the one linked in my blog post works the best so far)
The rest of the items are things I already had. A standard pot you get when you purchase larger size plants at the nursery, a terra cotta pot tray and some stones. Not shown is a large galvanized tub, mine is vintage but you can buy them new at a feed supply.
Fill the large galvanized tub with water. Sink the black pot under the water (upside down) in the galvanized tub, this will serve as a stand for the next item.
Place the terra cotta tray and stones on top of the inverted pot. I have it an angle so the water will drain into the tub, that way I won't have to refill it as often.
The sun soon had the fountain spraying away. It was not long before I spotted not only hummingbirds enjoying it but also some bees and other birds.

Made one simular but had to put wire on it to stay in place otherwise wind blows all the water out.WE have alot of wind here not Chicago but LOL

We have hummingbirds and I would love to have one of these, but we live in central Arizona - that means median summer heat of 100 degrees + and humidity of 8 -- 9. I would have to fill it twice a day. As an example, we have a 65 gal aquarium and lose a gal of water a day, and we have a humidifier. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

I wrote this yr or so ago, and I lived in Phx, but now ed to CT and they said they cant have hummingbird feeders cause of bears.

have had several fountains and i have had nothing but trouble with them getting algae after one day, I have tried apple cider vinergar and i put even more than quoted and still have trouble and I like the stones but pouring the water out to put new in every day, is a bummer! any ideas because I have a 2 tier water fall fountain and used vinegar, didnt work! I have to use something that my dogs might end up getting to it, although I have a small fence around it but wind blows it open at times! Any ideas, I love my tiered fountain and so did birds but everyday it got worse with algae with vinegar in it!
Why the tray of pebbles? Wouldn’t they be too hot for a bird to land on or I don’t understand why you have the tray with pebbles??
Sugar in the water for the hummingbirds? What about the butterfly does she need sugar water too?
