I purchased this dresser and China cabinet to refinish/paint. What are the styles of these called (i.e mission, jacobian...)?

They look to be Art Deco to me as well
Those are some beautiful pieces! There is a product called Wipe Renew (I think) by Rustoleum. If you don't want to change the color, use the wipes and it looks new again.

They are both from very different eras (early 1900 and late 1900s). Are they both really art deco?
They are both American. The top one is New York Empire, which were oftern Poplar covered in a dark walnut veneer. The second looks like a contemporary (1940's) version of a Federal, maybe Sheraton, style with Hepplewhite pulls. Probably cherry.

Amy is correct. Empire dresser and Federal style. Jacobean would be darker finish. Definitely not Art Deco. Lines are too clean.
