The Fork Bug, Upcycling Old Cutlery

2 Materials
15 Minutes

It was raining, I was bored, I had bought a job lot of old cutlery and I had some magnets! Plus I am always mislaying my keys. So what else was I meant to do!!!!!!!!!!

Tools etc

All I used for this was a pair of pliers and a vice (although the vice is optional!)

Step 1

I flattened the fork in the vice, this can alternatively be done with a hammer

Step 2

Here is the flattened fork shown between 2 unflattened ones

Step 3

I bent the two outer tines back on themselves using a pair of pliers

Step 4

I then bent the two inner tines outwards at about 45 degrees

Step 5

The fork handle was then bent back on itself between the 2 angled tines (I put a screwdriver blade underneath in order to leave space to insert the magnet)

Step 6

The magnet was inserted under the bent handle (I got 20 of these magnets for $10)

Step 7

I then bent the handle back over itself again between the 2 angled tines

Step 8

I put 2 bends in each of the outer tines to represent the bug leg joints

Step 9

I then put a couple of bends in the centre tines to represent antennae

Step 10

Then I made a couple of bends in the tail to make a hook

Step 11

And that was it complete, it is either a grasshoper/cricket or a beetle depending what you want

Step 12

I put it on the fridge door and hung my keys on it, you could also drill a hole through it if you wanted and use it as a picture hook or coat hook (no magnet needed)
