Farmhouse Succulent or Candle Holders
This one is great, you can use it for really whatever you'd like, but I figured they make the perfect fit for candles or a small plant- like a succulent! Here's what I did.
First, grad the wood piece you'd like to use.
I cut mine in to 3 different sizes for some variety. ( 5", 8", and 10") Then I stained them each a nice dark walnut color.
Next I use my 2" bit to drill a recessed hole to the tops of each. This little space will hold my succulents. I went about an inch and a 1/2 deep.
I added Spanish moss and hot glued the artificial succulents in the little space I made for them. I then distressed the edges with sand paper and added twine for a little visual interest.
Here are a few others I did you can also use with votive and make candle holders. I also used some real succulents in a few of them, really this can be used in many ways!
If you make a set of them, they look great stacked up as home decor, for that farmhouse rustic charm!

I don't understand your answer: "FYI it’s not a 4 x 4 it’s a 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 their custom"

4x4 aren't actually 4 inches. They are always 3.5 to 3.75. We call them 4x4 because a long time ago you actually got what you paid for. And Katherine's idea of staining 2x4 different colors then guess them together with a clamp then cut your round hole is a great one. If I'm understanding her correct. Any construction sight will have tons for free.

These are not 4x4 you have to order them but like I said I found for $1 on marketplace

These FYI are not 4x4 the are a custom cut so are probably a 3”x3” not those convoy 4x4 😊

@Shelly thank you so much for your beautiful idea! To ea of their own. If some one would have done whatever, because, then so be it. I love your idea! I have tons of scrap wood and stacks of this and that every where. So great idea for using up a couple more of my pieces. I love farm house style, so I believe I’ll keep the twine idea instead of the rope nautical idea. These are so cute!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
How deep would it have to be if you put live plants in without the glass holders...
Why wouldn't you measure & drill ALL the holes in the long board before chopping them up into 5" - 10" pieces? They would not be as likely to spin around on your work table or drill press, even if you were using a clamp.
