Knife Handle

We began by covering a scrap piece of wood with a think layer of white glue. The glue seals the wood and prevent any air that's locked inside to pop out during the curing process of the epoxy.

We let the glue-covered wood to dry out in the sun for about an hour.

We removed the blade from the original green handle using a hand saw. It took about 10 minutes.

Then, we covered the blade with masking tape so we won't cut ourselves or damage the blade during the process.

We used a bottle from the recycling bin to create the mold for the Epoxy. The bottle had a smooth surface which made the demolding phase easier. We mixed Epoxy and divided it between two cups, each with a different color. We picked blue and white, similar to our kitchen utensils.

After 24 hours the Epoxy had set and we removed it from the mold.

Then, we drew a contour line of how we wanted our handle to look like.

Carefully, using a band saw we cut out the handle according to the black lines. When cutting Epoxy it becomes opaque.

The bottle used for a mold had a curved surface, we had to use a sander to shape the handle and make it flat.

Using the Dremel tool we continued to shape the handle. The Dremel gave us the flexibility we needed to make it comfortable to hold.

Then, we used the polish head of the Dremel to polish the handle to make it super smooth.

To protect the Epoxy and the wood we brushed the handle with wood oil.
