If possible, remove the whole dropped ceiling. It is so outdated. If there are pipes running across the ceiling, paint the pipes and ceiling the same color, to make the pipes recede.

How to Install Beadboard or Barn Wood on the Ceiling
Yes, as an interior designer we remove the entire drop ceiling, install lots of recessed can lights, remove all outdated fluorescent fixtures. Spray paint ceiling area, including pipes, wires, duct work, etc. I usually do black with light colored, walls. Makes the ceiling disappear and room feel taller. Dark ceiling with good lighting is the key . If afraid of black, navy blue, deep deep purple, emerald green also works.
Remove it all! You will be so much happier in the long run to have a "normal" ceiling. Have you looked above the tiles? It's possible there is even drywall up there already. If not, you can have some put up and do the finishing work yourself.
