A palm sander works great for me.
You can sand using sandpaper and a block of wood. Or use an orbital sander if you have one.
If you need to sand narrow spaces, you can roll strips of fine grit sand paper into a cylinder, like wrapping paper, but longer than the narrow space is long., a glove finger might be too big, but you can adjust the cylinder to fit just right.
