Woven Paper Baskets Made From Cereal Boxes
Any home can always use another basket for organizing all the things we have hanging around! So why not kill two birds with one stone, getting rid of our trash and turning it into something useful, but also really cool?! We're going to make baskets by weaving together strips cut from breakfast cereal boxes!
You'll need
- about 3 cereal boxes, preferably colorful ones!
- a ruler
- a pencil
- scissors
- double-sided tape or glue gun
Open and cut off the edges of the cereal boxes. Use the pencil and ruler to mark strips 2 cm apart. Then cut out the strips.
Overlap the edges of two strips and stick them together with tape or glue so that you have 18 double strips.
Start by overlapping four strips in their centers. Then add one strip at a time, making sure to alternate which strips it goes over or under.
When you've woven all 18 strips, fold the edges up as shown here.
Join 3 strips from the cereal boxes together to create a triple strip. You'll need six of these triple strips.
Put one triple strip against the edges of the woven strips as show above, remembering to alternate over and under. Put some double stick tape or glue on the spots shown in the picture above, and press the strips together. The put tape or glue on the other strips (the ones laying flat) and press those together.
Fold the triple strip around the corner, and continue sticking it to the other strips in the same way on the next side.
Work your way around the whole basket, then trim off any excess.
Continue your way up the sides of the basket in the same way for another four triple strips, so that the basket ends up the height of 5 strips.
Fold over (trimming if necessary) the tops of the strips sticking out, so that they go inside the top of the basket, and glue them down. Then use the last triple strip to run around the top inside of the basket, covering up the tips of the folded strips. Glue this last strip in place.
Ta-da! There's your woven basket! I suggest coating the whole thing with a layer of Mod Podge to protect the paper, but also the strengthen the whole basket.
Once it's dried, you can fill up your basket with mix tapes, toys, toiletries, or any other thing you have floating around your home!

This is a very cute idea. I will probably paint mine and arch a handle over. Thank you!
