Cinder Blocks 8 x 8
DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics
Deco Art Titanium White Americana Premium Acrylic Paint
FrogTape
Stencil Brush Set, 50614E
You can pick up cinder blocks in different shapes and sizes at the home store for about $1 a piece. The size I used is 8 x 8. Let's be honest, cinder blocks are not pretty. But they definitely can be pretty with a little paint and a stencil, or even a free hand design.
I started by wiping off as much dust as possible from the cinder blocks. Then I decided to try using painters tape to create a design on one side. I used metallic, white and a bright red/orange for a pop of color and also to go with the flowers I bought. Just use the foam brush to slowly paint under the painter's tape for a cool design. You can also paint polka dots, or stripes. Just have fun with it
I decided to paint each side differently so I could turn them around based upon my mood. Two sides are a solid copper metallic and the other side is metallic and white striped.
If you search on Pinterest there are so many cool designs and this is actually a fun project you could do with the kiddos over the Summer. Don't they look so cute by the front door? Under $5 for two! For more quick and easy crafts I'd love to have you stop by my blog https://ourcraftymom.com/

I tried this idea of using cinder blocks as planters years ago. The problem, I had to water the plants almost on a daily basis. The soil dried up quickly and the plants died quickly. It didn't matter what I planted. Succulents, etc. They all died. 😤😢

Karen, I live in an urban jungle of concrete everywhere. There are numerous ways to have the best of both worlds. If like me you have no dirt in which to pt these down and have the roots grow into the ground, you are absoulty correct they dryout instantly. So once I became a grandmother I thought of how much fluid those nappie can hold. So I cut them up and put at bottom to keep roots moist. There. are also soluable water crstal you can add to these to create water jellies in the soil mix.I also recommend you always water the outside of block as well to keep from over heating. Good luck you can do this.

Though I answered earlier about years past using diapers ( nappies) in any container you make to help keep moist. This worked for me for many years. However; just the other day I thought of dollar store sponges. I soaked them in diluted Mircale Grow , then depending on the size of the conayiner add these numerous cut up or whole into the dirt about wherethe water would be waiting for roots to reach. And last few days have been HOT and I am imprssed with how they are holding up. So just another way to conserve water and save your plants.
