I found this site that has several ideas. You could put a wood crate, large plastic bins, or those collapsable bags.
Velcro was my answer!! Just "design" plastic tubs or even cardboard boxes in a way that best suits your needs. Place strips of the sticky velcro on the top and bottom or on either side and match the other velcro piece to your trunk area.....no more sliding and you can design it to uniquely fit your needs. Easy peasy and very inexpensive to do. You can find rolls of Velcro at any craft or fabric store. Ask a clerk, there are varioius types, some can be sewn on some has adhesive backing on each side to do what I mentioned above. It comes in white, beige, and black and sometimes you can find it available in royal blue or red. Customize your trunk!!
Drill tiny holes in clear totes with lids. Then zip-tie the bins tightly together so they don't slide or bang around. Add additional zip-ties as needed to hold the sides of the bins to loops or other hardware in the back of the vehicle, if they don't fit tightly on their own within the space.
If you do need to remove the bins to clean them for example, just cut the side
zip-ties.It's fast, easy and inexpensive to change the configuration or re-position the bins again.
