Boring Bench To Home Decor Piece With Character!

This green bench makeover could not have been easier. I found the bench at a yard sale. It was a rainy Saturday morning and Matt and I ventured out to see what we could find. We stopped at seven sales and didn’t find anything. We said we would stop at one more and then head home. The last sale was better than the others we stopped at. I bought this bench, a small end table and a couple of small decor items. The morning wasn’t a total loss. Matt and I got to spend some time together, I found some home decor pieces and a couple of projects.

This bench doesn’t look like anything too exciting, but it was a good piece to share how easy it is to shop for pieces at yard sales and customize them to fit your style perfectly and save a ton of money doing it! Decorating your home doesn’t have to break your budget and I love showing you how to do it through projects like this.

To start the makeover, I cleaned the bench inside and out. Then, I used my favorite (aff)  Zibra paint brush to cover the bench in two coats of (aff) “ Kudzu” from Dixie Belle Paint.

I have never used “Kudzu” paint color before so I was excited to see it on this bench. It is a beautiful, spring green color. The color is so pretty, but once I got it on the bench, I wanted to tone it down a bit and give it a little more dimension. I brushed “Enhance” Glaze from Velvet Finishes all over the bench to deepen the Kudzu color and add some character to the bench.

The glaze is very forgiving. You can add more to darken the look or wipe it off to lighten it. It is not a scary glaze to use because you can move it around to get the look you want.

The bench does have storage so it was the perfect excuse to add an unexpected pop of color to the project inside. It was another new color I haven't used before and it made a pretty statement inside. Head to my blog link to check it out.

I had to add more character to the bench, so I went with this cute "home" sign made with Chalk Couture. I have a video tutorial in the link below to show you how easy this was to do.

This bench has come a long way. You can take boring pieces that don't cost a lot of money and customize them to fit your style while still keeping money in the bank! Budget decorating is easy!
