DIY Target Inspired Cozy Ottoman!
How to create a designer ottoman from thrift store finds!!
You all know how it goes. You're shopping in a store or online when suddenly an item just POPS out and you fall in love instantly!
That's exactly what happened to me on a recent shopping trip to Target! I was minding my own business when suddenly I saw this ADORABLE ottoman and I just HAD to have it!!! Then I took one look at the price tag and my heart broke! Yikes!!
It just wasn't in my budget!! But maybe something similar could be if I made it myself!!
I had purchased this not so pretty ottoman for $2 at my local thrift store a few months back for an entirely different project.
Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly what I had hoped for after removing the ugly fabric so I just set it aside and forgot about it. Until now. The size was absolutely perfect for this project. All I needed now was a couple of other items to complete my vision!
The first was the fabric for my ottoman. I started by checking out big box store fabric departments but I just couldn't find what I wanted. Then I looked at that inspiration ottoman one more time and realized what I needed. A cozy sweater! Since I didn't have any I wanted to get rid of it was back to the thrift store to find just the right one. At $2.50 the one pictured was perfect!
I had a few squares of foam leftover from another project so I simply traced around the top of my ottoman and cut the foam with my X-acto knife.
Then I just glued the foam onto the top with Loctite Spray Adhesive.
I cut my sweater into sections and used part of the front section to cover my ottoman. It was as simple as holding the material taut and stapling it into place.
The last and final step is optional, but I wanted a finished look so I cut the ribbed collar and a piece of the ribbed bottom and used this as trim for around the top of the ottoman.
Now every time I look at this sweet ottoman I can't help but think about all things cozy-like comfy sweaters, a cup of a hot chocolate and getting warm by a cozy fire.
You can find more details and the full tutorial on this cozy ottoman over on my blog!

I love Target, their merchandise and everything about their stores!!!! BUT, your ottoman is so much prettier than the Target one. Like other people here, I really love the ribbing for the finishing touch!!! Excellent job!!!

Have a question about this project?
It looks sooo pretty! Especially the ribbed finish. I know you removed the upholstery before you decided what you were going to do with it, but l’m wondering if you could have successfully upholstered over it?
