RESIN DIY Agate Slices

Here's how you can easily make realistic looking agate slices or cheese trays (cheeseboard). If you're totally new to resin these instructions are perfect for beginners.
I was so excited to try these and surprisingly they were easier to make than I thought. To create the shape for my agate slice I used some saran wrap and silicone to create the shape on top of the saran wrap. I also sketched the shape I wanted on a piece of paper and added it under the saran wrap to help get the perfect shape while piping the silicone. A little bit of food safety! Make sure you are using resin that meets your needs. For example since I wanted to use mine as a cheese tray and because of food contact I made sure to use Art Resin. This resin is food safe if no other chemical substance is added to it. Meaning I would need to add a clear layer of resin if I have colored my resin. You can find more info about this on www.artresin.com in their faq section. Toxic Resins! Also be sure to read all instructions before using your resin. Some resins are toxic even if they don't smell like it and can make you sick. Wear the proper gear and follow all safety instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Ok Just a heads up. These photos and basic instructions are just the tip of the iceberg. You can also just pour a few different colors into the mold. Careful not to add to much paint to your resin as it will not let the resin to set properly. If you want to create layers just like I did with this white one. Be sure to add a clear layer of resin if it will come in contact with food.
After 24 hours remove your mold and add metallic to the edges. You can snip off any sharp edges. For metallic you can do gold paint, gold leaf etc.

I have been thinking along these lines. I want to make a shelf for my entry way. A sculpture friend told me I could use plasticene for a mold for the resin. I prefer your idea of the saran wrap, it's seems so much easier. I still want it to have more depth. Any ideas for that?
