Hi Carole, were you able to find and get rid of the dead mouse? If you can, get rid of it and make a bleach/water solution. Spray the area around where the mouse was found.
Ugg that's the worst. I don't know how you can get rid of the smell. I read it takes about 10 days for the smell to go away :(
Hi Carol, sorry you are dealing with a dead mouse smell. Hope this clears it up for you. How to Get Rid of Dead Mouse Smell in Your House
How to Remove a Dead Mouse Smell from Your House. Put on rubber gloves, expendable clothing and nose mask. Prepare a solution of 10 percent bleach/90 percent water. Place the corpse inside two Ziploc bags. Spray solution over the infected area. Wipe the area with paper towels, removing all marks, prints and defecations.
It's the worst. An Odor Sponge was my solution. Even better if you can find, remove and disinfect the area.
You've gotten some good advice already. I'll add that you should make sure you have some traps out because if you have one mouse, you likely have many mice. I'd also do a perimeter check around your house to fill in any small cracks or holes that might exist--mice can get through spots as small as 1/4".
Odoban disinfectant and odor elimination.
Be very careful when dealing with mouse urine, it can carry Hanta Virus which can be fatal. So wear rubber gloves, and a good mask, throw your clothes in the wash after cleaning up. If the place smells really bad, get Room Shocker from a home store like Home Depot. This what contractors use for houses with bad odors.
You could try Febreze for fabric and shake and Vac, but if this fails go for a Steam clean............Best wishes
Hi Carole: First of all, ick! :) If you have removed the mouse, you can use a product called OdorMute. It's an enzyme eater and should work on the smells, too. You can get it on line. However, any enzyme eater should work.Be very careful, and use a mask when working in the area and maybe put a bit of Vicks under your nose when doing this to keep down the smell. Good luck
