Ment that has raised spots on it
Can you share a photo? That will help with ideas! :)
It depends on what caused the spots. If the finish is rough, you may need to sand and refinish it.
Hi Bert,
What is your project, hard to tell from your post?
Is the veneer popping up? A picture is needed to really help you. If it's the veneer you'll need to slit it open and put wood glue in and clamp it down. Make sure you wipe off excess glue and use wax paper under your clamp block.
Take a good photo to the paint department of your home improvement store and ask for their advice on materials and methods. They may have ideas you never thought of.
I learned something new today! I googled your cabinet and found this. Hope it helps!

Here is some info, not much out there http://theantiquesalmanac.com/theultimateallinone.htm
Depending on the sentimental value and/or relative value of this 140 year old antique, I wouldn’t paint it and wouldn’t replace the top until I tried to repair it first.
It does sound like veneer damage.
The cost of new veneer is high.
There’s a lot of YT videos on repairing veneers. I’d check them out first. What’s another year on this “ol’ darlin’” ?
Don't! Sell it and buy something you like better. There are buyers for Antiques.
