Addition to Kids Rustic Market Stall
I had previously made a market stall for my kids using recycled timber planks, see: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/diy-kids-rustic-market-stall-44246227
After a few weeks of use, I decided to add it! 😊
I wanted to close the bottom section off so that I could store boxes etc underneath without it looking messy. Originally I was going to use a sheet of mdf, but I wanted it to look rustic so I decided to use some wood from an old pallet instead.
The process was very simple. Firstly, I measured the gap (height and width) between the floor and the shelf on the market stall that I wanted to cover. I then pulled apart the pallet and picked out the best pieces of wood to make a frame.
For the frame, I first cut 3 pieces of wood, two of them the width of the market stall and one of them slightly shorter to leave space for a skirting board on the wall that it would sit against.
I then cut up 2 shorter pieces and nailed them to the 3 panels, locking it all in place.
Note: I left a small gap between the top of the support piece and the top panel so that I would be able to screw the top panel straight to the shelf, while the support piece would sit underneath it, so that it would be flush. I didn’t put a support panel on one side as that side would screw onto the side of the market stall.
I then put the frame into place and screwed it onto the shelf and side of the market stall.
As I had left over wood, I used another piece from the same pallet, cut to the size I wanted, put some hooks on it and then attached it to the wall for pans, bag, aprons etc to hang off.
I then removed the hooks I had previously put on the side of the stall and hung the kid’s postbox (bought from Kmart) there instead.
The market stall was now finished (again ☺️), and even more practical. 👌🏻
