Elaine...I usually strip the old , clean well then apply polyurethane. Good luck
Clean it, tape off and protect any areas that need protection like the keys. I would strip the finish, sand and restain. Unless, you want to paint it, but you should still sand it down to get as much of the old finish off before painting. Detailed areas can be cleaned with a toothbrush and stripper. Hope this helps!
I'm in love with a new product. It's called Feed n'Wax - you just wipe it on, let it sit and buff with a cloth. And it smells good! You can find it here: https://amzn.to/38vQfBz and at the hardware store.

You could try Bees Wax.....
What type of wood? Could you post a picture? We sanded resealed our Cedar walls. It was a remarkable transformation and restoration looking like new after the project was completed.
I use hemp oil to restore old wood. If you rub it into the old, dry wooden boards or furniture it restores the wood to a beautiful shine.
Hello, hope this helps you out, mix 3 parts mineral oil with one part vinegar (I used plain white), and shook it up in a jar.
Then wipe it onto the cradle with an old t-shirt or microfiber rag
