DIY Drywall Repair
Do yo have an ugly hole in your wall that has been staring at you for weeks? It's not a fun thing to think about fixing, but the good news is that it doesn't take that long. The way to fix drywall depends on the size of the hole.
Small Holes
Repairing small holes can be done in minutes. You don't even need a patch, you just need spackle and a spackling knife. It takes about 5 minutes
1.) Scoop out some spackle onto your knife
2.) Scrape it into the hole until smooth
3.) Allow to dry
4.) Sand and paint
Medium Holes
For holes smaller than your fist (not that the hole was created by a fist, this is just a visual aid). The process takes about 15 minutes.
1.) Sand over the the hole to remove any drywall bits and wipe away the dust with a cloth.
2.) Apply the drywall patch, which is a sticky mesh like surface.
4.) Use the putty knife to apply spackling around the patch and over the edges. Keep spreading the spackling until it looks smooth. Let dry.
Large Holes
4.) Cut the drywall using a utility knife.
6.) Screw your drywall piece into the wood brackets you've added for support.
7.) Apply drywall tape to all of the seams.
8.) Apply spackle, allow time to dry and sand.
9.) You might need to sand and repeat if it isn't smooth. If your wall has texture you will need to apply texture to match the surrounding area.
