How do I redo sling chairs?
I have these sling chairs and table set that I want to change. No repairs needed, just some clean up and color changes. I have steel wool and spray paint for the metal parts. For the sling part of it, do I have to completely replace it, or can I just paint over it?

I don't know why you couldn't paint over the fabric. Just make sure the paint you use is for this type of material. It probably has a bit of "give" to it.
A specific paint for fabric should work but I worry it will eventually give out because the chairs are outside. I wonder instead of a fabric dye would work better?
I think if you painted the fabric sling material with the same product as the metal part of the chairs it would NOT last on the material. It would flake away in time and weather and look terrible. Fabrics expand and contract with temperature changes and hold moisture so using spray paint on the fabric simply won't work. If you think you can re place the sling portion easily I would do that.

Outdoor fabric paint is more like a vinyl coating and is made to withstand the elements more so then indoor fabric paint. Here is a link that explains this in a little more detail:

If there is nothing wrong with the slings....couldn't you just power wash the fabric to clean them up. Then you would only have to worry about painting the metal. That part is easy because Rustoleum paints are amazing with metal and don't really chip at all. That's what I would do. If that sling is not fraying...I would leave it. If it still doesn't clean up with a power washer then think about that outdoor spray paint. A power washer worked great on our outdoor rug which is probably the same type of plastic as the sling. You can check that post out here:

You can power wash the entire chair and spray paint the entire thing!

Why not mask off the areas that aren't metal, spray paint the metal parts with Rustoleum or Krylon paint manufactured specifically for metal. The get some fabric paint or paint for plastic and stencil or draw free-hand designs on the sling portions to "jazz up" those sections. You could place a few stripes or geometric designs here and there in colors you love and be done with it! Sit down and enjoy the chairs! Depending on how creative you get, they could
become conversation pieces. A pic of an idea on a totally different style chair. Have FUN!
If you paint the chair covers the paint might come off on your clothes try. New cushion or leave alone or just do a color in the chzirs
