Hi Robin if paint is not an option you could replace the hardware by unscrewing the old and putting on new. Then, when you leave, you could put the old hardware back on and take the new with you.
Just clean and polish then replace hardware. Save the old so you can put it back on when move.
You will need to ask permission before you make any changes like painting them.
Robin: ask for permission to paint! ...the owners may like your contribution with sweat equity!
You also could use removable contact paper.
removable wall paper like from wallsneedlove.com
After getting permission and cleaning the cabinets then prime, paint and either clean up the old hardware (if you spray paint it will look like new) or buy new.
Hello Robin,
Speak to the Landlord. Ask what you are allowed to do or not do first, otherwise it could cost you...............Better to be safe than sorry!
I would ask to paint them and/or change out the knobs!
If they are in good shape, use a product like Rejuvenate to add some luster to the wood. Change out the hardware, if possible. Add removable wallpaper or contact paper.
You can swap out the knobs, and then take them with you when you leave!
New knobs that aren’t too expensive or possibly removable decals
Thank you all - I of course would get permission for anything 'permanent', I was looking for ideas from people who have done things that are removable. Thanks again.
I would change the hardware
Changing out the hardware could be an inexpensive update. And you could take them with you if you move. Keep the original hardware!
