No Sew Hanging Sachet
I've been working through cleaning and organizing my bedroom while I have some extra time. And since my closet is part of my bedroom, I want it to be clean and also smell nice.
I decided to make a hanging sachet for my closet very similar to the drawer sachets I made a while back.
The hanging sachet is easy to make and only needs a few materials. The best part is that there's no sewing involved! (If you know how to sew, you can definitely sew it instead.)
All you need to make a no sew hanging sachet is:
- fabric (scraps are fine)
- ribbon
- hem tape
- iron
- 1/4 cup Epsom salt
- 1/2 cup white rice
- 18-20 drops of your favorite essential oil(s) - I used Fresh Meadow from Plant Therapy.
In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix the Epsom salt and rice until well combined. Add the essential oil(s) and stir until well combined. Set aside.
Epsom salt soaks up the essential oil helping the scent to last longer.
Using scissors or a rotary tool, cut the fabric into a 5" x 10" rectangle.
After cutting, iron out any wrinkles to make it flat and easier to work with.
Place the fabric wrong side up, fold it in half and iron to make a crease.
Lay the hem tape along the edges of the fabric, but not all the way to the end. Fold over the top half and iron.
Turn the hanging sachet right side out and add the essential oil mixture. Don't fill it completely full or you will have a really hard time closing the sachet.
Next, fold the top edges of the fabric down towards the inside of the hanging sachet and iron so they stay creased, then insert the ribbon (mine was about 10″ long). Lay the hem tape over the ribbon and iron to close.
I placed the ribbon on top of the hem tape to begin with but it didn’t work. The ribbon kept coming out. However, when I put the hem tape over the ribbon it held.
That’s it! Then you just hang the sachet in your closet for a fresh scent!

Word of warning ~ I had a cousin that made everyone neck pillows for Christmas one year. They were to heat up in the microwave & soothe your neck. Well some of us didn't use them right away and got weevils in the rice that spread in our storage cabinets. What a mess! To keep weevils out of your rice you can bake @120 for an hour, freeze or add tumeric, garlic or ginger to the rice. Ahhhhh good times.
