Ugly Stool to Trendy Repurposed Stool
I am often surprised that people pass up these great items. When they’re super sturdy and made out of real wood and they just need a coat of paint to give them new life. I had this ugly green stool and I needed a side table for next to my bed. since it was a high platform bed the stool with a little more height to it. So I came up with this simple solution I hope you enjoy it
Stool itself was in pretty good condition it was worn but there were no large gouges or nothing that needed reinforcements so this was gonna be a super easy project
Regardless whether I’m using the best paint with primer or chalk paint I always use a liquid sander over the project just to make sure that it removes any residue and gives you that extra grab to have the paint stay.
I often try to use what paint or products I have around my home rather than run down to the store and purchase every time I do a project. Honestly It defeats my purpose of being able to repurpose. So I had a gray paint which is a little too light for me so I mixed black in to give it more depth and use plaster of Paris to create a chalk type paint. No recipe really I just mixed to get the color I want and then put a couple scoops of plaster of Paris in there.
I got my first coat of paint on the stool and then a second and it was a nice deep gray that I wanted.
I personally have a vinyl cutter so I can make whatever I want for projects. I know you can go to the local hobby store and purchase any vinyl decal of what you’d like. The vinyl decal makes it easy you don’t have to stencil it it’s perfect.
Now I just take a little bit of black paint stroke it on there to age it and then go over the top with a clear polyurethane. Super easy I love how it turned out it’s a great night stand
Here is my final project it turned out super cute. Let me know your thoughts thank you
