I started with a few 1 x 2 x 8’s and cut 6 12” pieces. I then cut 6 more at 10” each.
DIY “Vintage” Pie Safe
I’ve been looking for a vintage pie safe. I just really love the vintage, primitive look they bring to a space. Unfortunately they’re expensive or just not what I had in mind. So I made my own! Here’s how!
I took 2 12” pieces and 2 10” pieces and fastened them with wood glue and 1/4 inch finish nails. These will be my sides and back.
You will have 3 total finished pieces.
I fastened these 3 pieces together using wood glue and finish nails.
For the side and back walls I used some knotty pine tongue and groove planks.
I fastened them with small finish nails and wood glue.
The sides and back should look like this when finished.
I used some old barn wood I had for the top. Then stained the whole thing.
I added a couple 3/4 inch square dowels on the inside for a shelf.
Using the remainder of 3/4 inch dowel I made this frame that will be the door.
I fastened some chicken wire to the back using some smaller square dowels.
Now the whole thing is getting painted in White Veil from Behr in a flat finish. And then heavily distressed.
Still missing hardware but I absolutely love how it turned out.
