Hello Nev29243790 , hope this helps you out
Baskets can also be spray painted with fabulous results. I have spray painted with Rustoleum spray paint.
To stain with wood stain, use a soft cloth like an old t-shirt, apply stain let dry a bit and then wipe off.
Baskets can be used as lamp shades, storage containers for toys, bathroom, items, paints/craft materials, and a container for a gift. You can also make a display of them on a wall.

You can use a gel stain. You can go darker but not lighter. You can also spray paint them.

Use Garden Paints or Stains to do the job or paint them with what you have and varnish over them to seal.

Hi Nev: You can use a spray stain. Make sure your baskets are completely free of oils and are dry before you stain them.
I even used a small artists paint brush and applied food coloring to a wicker basket. The result was a translucent effect. But it takes a lot of food coloring :(
