How could i update this 80's China cabinet?
I have a 80's China cabinet that needs updates
Hi Kathleen how you refinish it is totally up to you. If its solid wood you could strip the paint off, sand it down and stain it any color stain you would like. If its not and you would rather just paint it I would just sand it down lightly first to make sure your new primer and paint sticks well. Several thin coats is a good way to paint furniture or, even better, you can get a smoother look using several thin coats of spray paint. Good luck!
You could always milk paint or chalk paint it - here is some info for you

Hello are you hoping to paint or restain the cabinet?
If you want to return to the wood, you'll have to use paint stripper. I like Citristrip - it's less harsh and does a great job.
Is it real wood? Is it painted now? Any specifics on what you're looking for helpwise?
If it doesn't need repair, I would scuff with steel wool then wipe down with denatured alcohol. Then you can prime and paint. If you want to stain a different color and it is "real" wood (not pressed wood) you can sand and clean, then stain & seal.
Sand, paint, seal!
