Have you tried Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint?
Hi there:
Wondering if anyone has tried the new Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint yet? Trying to decide if it's a better alternative than buying new covers for my outdoor cushions.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hi Allison, I hope you get some answers! I've been considering painting my chair covers as well and did locate a couple of reviews on line. The fabric on my chair covers are a more open weave than the ones in these videos so I think I'm going to pass and perhaps make some new covers.

Hello. I might suggest using it with caution. Someone on the board I frequent used it and was very unhappy with the results of the coverage and the texture of this paint on a pillow.
Although it does sound like a remarkable product it may not turn out to your satisfaction I would investigate looking at a lot of reviews perhaps on Amazon to see what the folks that have used this product are saying.
I used Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric specialty coating (same basic item just a different manufacturer).
I was extremely unhappy with this product. It did NOT cover completely. Even with 4 coats of paint the pattern was not covered up. It shows thru and the cushion looks horrible.
No matter what brand you try check out reviews online made by actual customers.
Just Goggle the name and type of product and insert reviews into the search so you get something other then the manufacturer telling you how good their product is.
Honestly, I don't like painted fabric. I've tried different brands and don't like the feel or coverage. Covers are a safer way to go. Good luck!
Hi Alison. It's important to read those customer's reviews. I have not used this product, but after reading the above comments, I would not purchase it. Actual customers will give you their honest opinions. And provide valuable information. Good luck Alison. I hope you are well.
It goes blotching from what I have seen. Recover them or get new ones.
We have furniture on the back patio which gets full sun and rain. My wife had some bright accent pieces so we sprayed the faded fabric with gray primer about three years ago. It went nicely with her colors and she didn’t have to worry about it clashing. It needed a touch up a year ago so I did a quick spray and it still looks good.
I don’t know anything about the Rustoleum for fabrics but I Usually have a blotchy look after the first coat but the second coat evens every thing out.
Spray paint is great, but as far as outdoor cushions go, it would probably be better to make new covers or replace them.
I found it was not adequate for my needs.
Thanks everyone for your feedback and ideas!
Hi Alison, I think it would be worth it for a color change or even to brighten up the current color, I would use Scotchgarde to protect from the UV rays and elements though.
Here are some photos and reviews from Home Depot customers. Maybe it will help...especially since it probably works differently on different fabrics...https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-12-oz-Navy-Outdoor-Fabric-Spray-Paint-6-Pack-352116/312233261?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&mtc=Shopping-B-F_D24-G-D24-Multi-Multi-NA-Feed-SMART-NA-NA-All_Paint_Smart&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_D24-G-D24-Multi-Multi-NA-Feed-SMART-NA-NA-All_Paint_Smart-71700000048001153-58700004793621602-92700041080546068&gclid=Cj0KCQjw28T8BRDbARIsAEOMBcyP6uAq_CG8vMmvNOiJ8S4qoYjG5-vO_cbFex4VcmaYnyCUrbCEk-saAtDMEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I'd buy new covers, especially if it will get wet a lot.
It wouldn't hurt to try it especially if you are thinking about new cushions or covers anyway. Spray paint is cheap and if it would save you some time in replacing all the covers or having them made, I would give it a try. If it goes on blotchy, consider doing a couple of coats. Who knows maybe it would save you a couple of years before getting new ones. Good luck!
Take a sample of the material you intend to spray and see what happens and if your project is likely to get wet outdoors run the tap over your test piece and watch if the water is soaked in or runs off, but after all that I would personally buy new covers which are water repellent
Well, spray paint is for sure cheaper than buying new cushions. I vote that you should just try it. Worst case - it only lasts for a season and you buy new covers or new cushions later on.
