Could be several possibilities. #1 on the list is termites. This is generally not a DIY. Call a reputable exterminator for a free inspection. Get several if you need to. Heed their advice. A colony or two of termites can destroy a home in short term. And make it uninhabitable and even red taged. Homeowners insurance will not kick in due to lack of homeowner maintenance.
It could be termites or, if the holes are larger, wood bees. I would call in a professional to take a look.
This could be very serious so please have a pest person come in to identify which bug this is. If it is termites you don't want to guess you want to know for certain.
Call in a professional to identify the insects, there are a lot of pest control companies out there that can help you, if they are termites, act immediately.

We use a termite spray, Hi Yield 238 Plus, that you can be applied for a multitude of insect problems. You mix with water and apply with a sprayer.
Any good quality termite spray should work.
It could be termites but it could also be powder post beetles. You should have a pest inspector out to tell you what kind of bugs are the issue first.
We had carpenter ants in our resort cabins. Painted with some sort of insecticide and that took care of it. They didn't do a lot of damage, just looked unsightly with the small hole and sawdust below it.
